Hugo City Council Minutes for April 6, 2009 Page 4 of 13 Approve One -Year Leave of Absence for Kitty Cheesebrow from the Historical Commission Kitty Cheesebrow was appointed as a charter member of the Hugo Historical Commission when it was created by the Hugo City Council in 2003. For more than five years now, Kitty has provided a level of community service second to none while serving as the Chair of the Commission since its infancy. Due to a change in family obligations, Kitty has requested a one- year leave of absence from the Historical Commission, which would allow her to provide the necessary attention to a number of family obligations. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved a one-year leave of absence for Kitty Cheesebrow from the Historical Commission and promoted Kathy Brevig to a regular commission member from her associate commission member status for this one-year time period. Approve Authorization to Advertise and Hire Summer Seasonal Public Works Workers At it's March 17, 2009 Budget Workshop, the Hugo City Council discussed with Public Works Director Scott Anderson the hiring of five summer seasonal employees rather than the seven summer seasonal employees, which was included in the City's 2009 Budget. After discussion, Council agreed that it would not include the purchase and maintenance of hanging flower baskets on the County Road 8 Corridor as well and would support the reduction to five summer seasonal employees hired by the City of Hugo for the Public Works Department to do a variety of park maintenance duties. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved the authorization to advertise and hire five summer seasonal employees, which would include the return of three employees from last year. Approve Application for Water Surface Use Permit on Sunset Lake Each year, homeowners on Sunset Lake make application to the City of Hugo for a water surface use permit for a slalom water ski course. Washington County Sheriff's Department has provided an application form that has been completed by Dave Strub on behalf of the residents on Sunset Lake. City staff has reviewed the application and found it be satisfactory complete. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved the application for a water surface use permit on Sunset Lake for the homeowners to hold water skiing events on the slalom course. Approve Reinstatement of Bryan Lund as Hugo Firefighter as of April 6, 2009 In January of 2009, the City of Hugo received a request from Hugo Firefighter Bryan Lund for a three-month leave of absence due to the birth of his third child. Bryan continued with mandatory drills and Emergency Management Training to ensure there were no laps in qualifications during his absence. Fire Chief Jim Compton is pleased to report that Bryn Lund wishes to be reinstated to a full-time status. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved reinstatement of Bryan Lund as a full-time Hugo firefighter as of April 6, 2009.
