Hugo City Council Meeting May 4, 2009 <br />Page 2 of 9 <br />Presentation of White Bear Area Chamber of Commerce 2009 Company of Excellence <br />Award to City of Hugo for Emergency Response to the May 25, 2008 Tornado Disaster <br />At its April 27, 2009 business awards annual meeting, the White Bear Area Chamber of <br />Commerce recognized a number of local businesses and business leaders for service to the <br />Chamber and service to the community. The City of Hugo was recognized as the Chamber's <br />2009 Company of Excellence Award for the City of Hugo's response to the May 25, 2008 <br />tornado disaster. City officials from the City of Hugo were in attendance and Mayor Fran Miron <br />accepted the award on behalf of the citizens of the City of Hugo and offered his thanks and <br />appreciation to the Chamber and its members for all of their help. Mayor Fran Miron said it was <br />an honor to receive the recognition but there were many who played a role in the emergency <br />response, and he thanked all those involved. <br />Presentation of APWA 2009 Exceptional Performance Award to Hugo Public Works <br />Department for Emergency Response to the May 25, 2008 Tornado Disaster <br />The City of Hugo has received notification from the American Public Works Association that the <br />Hugo Public Works Department will receive the 2009 APWA Exceptional Performance Award <br />at the National APWA Conference in September in Columbus, Ohio. Public Works Director <br />Scott Anderson and former Public Works Director Chris Petree were unable to attend this <br />Council meeting. <br />Haas made motion, Petryk seconded, to table this item until the May 18, 2009 meeting in hopes <br />that Public Works Director Scott Anderson and former director Chris Petree will be able to <br />attend. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />Presentation of 2008 City of Hugo Annual Report - Washington County Sheriff Bill Hutton <br />Sheriff Bill Hutton from the Washington County Sheriff's Office presented the 2008 City of Hugo <br />Annual Report to the Council. He recognized his 911 Dispatch Department, who recently received <br />a national recognition award, and Commander Mary Stutz and four other deputies who were in <br />attendance at the meeting. Sheriff Hutton shared a PowerPoint presentation with an overview of <br />the organization, accomplishments of the department, significant events of 2008, and current <br />projects the department was working on including the 800 MHz system. The Sheriffs Department, <br />as well as Council, is pleased with the successful attainment of the COPS Grant, which will <br />provide funding for an additional deputy for the City of Hugo for the next three years. Mayor Fran <br />Miron said he appreciated the continued service and the excellent group of deputies Washington <br />County Sheriffs Department provides the City of Hugo. <br />
