Hugo City Council Meeting May 4, 2009 <br />Page 8 of 9 <br />mechanism to collect revenues to implement the lake's management plan and other measures <br />directed toward protecting and improving water quality in Bald Eagle Lake. This item was <br />tabled at the City Council's April 20, 2009 meeting. Councilmember Becky Petryk attended the <br />public hearing and provided Council with an update saying property owners had voluntarily <br />petitioned and agreed to a special assessment for a plan that would improve water quality on <br />Bald Eagle Lake. The meeting was well attended by residents. <br />Report on Results of the Recent Budget Meeting <br />Councilmember Chuck Haas requested this item be added to the agenda. On Tuesday, March 17, <br />2009, the Council held a special workshop where Council reviewed the state aids received by the <br />City, how it impacted the budget, and what could be done if the City faced more cuts. City <br />Administrator Mike Ericson stated it was not yet know what the City will or will not get in state <br />aid due to the state legislature, which is scheduled to adjourn May 18, 2009. Councilmember <br />Haas cautioned against making unnecessary expenditures. Staff will keep Council apprised on <br />any decisions made by the state. <br />Signup for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training in Fall, 2009 <br />Administrative Intern Shelly Clausen has been reviewing options of CERT training for <br />emergency response with the City of Centerville's former Councilmember Michelle Laksow in <br />the fall of 2009. This item was tabled at the April 20, 2009 meeting due to the lack of time. <br />Dennis Walter, Volunteer Resource Coordinator from Homeland Security Emergency <br />Management, attended this meeting and presented Council with a large framed collage of photos <br />of activities during the cleanup after the May 25, 2008 tornado compiled by the Citizen Corps. <br />Dennis thanked Hugo for letting CERT help Hugo recover after the storm. He explained that <br />professional responders make up only one percent of the nations population, and CERT is a <br />system to train and organize citizens to help others in the event of an emergency. <br />Miron made motion, Weidt seconded, to direct staff to continue to work on developing a CERT <br />program for Council consideration. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />Schedule Annual Performance Review for City Administrator Mike Ericson <br />Mike Ericson was hired by the City of Hugo as its new City Administrator on April 17, 2000. <br />Over the past nine years, the City of Hugo has conducted an annual performance review of the <br />City Administrator with himself, Council, and City Attorney David Snyder. This item was <br />tabled at the April 20, 2009 meeting due to the lack of time. <br />Haas made motion, Petryk seconded, to schedule a special Council meeting for June 8, 2009 at <br />9:00 a.m. to hold the City Administrators annual performance review. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />
