Motion carried. <br />2008 James Trudeau Law Enforcement Award - Deputy Pete Godfrey <br />City staff was informed by the Washington County Sheriffs Department that Washington County <br />Deputy Pete Godfrey has received the 2008 James Trudeau Law Enforcement Award on behalf <br />of the Lakes Area Youth Service Bureau's (YSB) Board of Directors. This award recognizes one <br />law enforcement officer for their outstanding work with the youth in their service district. <br />Deputy Pete is a very positive role model and is known his for his proactive involvement, his <br />volunteer work, and his very unique way of dealing with kids. Pete is well respected by his peers <br />and the children in the Hugo area. Deputy Pete Godfrey was in attendance as well as Sheriff Bill <br />Hutton. The Council congratulated Pete on this well deserved award. <br />Fran Miron also congratulated Jeff Ayers, reporter for The Citizen who was in attendance, for <br />being the recipient of the 2009 Herb Kohl Foundation Award. This award is given to educators <br />chosen for their superior ability to inspire a love of learning in their students, their ability to <br />motivate others, and for their leadership and service within and outside the classroom. Jeff is an <br />English teacher in Richmond, WI. <br />Summary Report on Long Term Recovery Committee and June 7 Volunteer Recognition <br />Day - Jim Gondek, Chair <br />On Sunday, June 7, 2009, the Hugo City Council and Long Term Recovery Committee Chair <br />Jim Gondek recognized the volunteers who served for the past year on the Long Term Disaster <br />Recovery Committee. The emotional ceremony was an opportunity for the committee to gather <br />for one last time to recognize the tornado survivors as well as the Hugo Fire Department and the <br />volunteers who served on the Long Term Disaster Recovery Committee who's charge was to <br />assist the residents in any way possible for any of their unmet needs after the May 25, 2008 <br />tornado disaster. Committee Chair Jim Gondek provided to the council a final report of the <br />committee's work over the past year and highlight those individuals who did an outstanding job <br />in assisting the survivors of the May 25, 2008 tornado disaster. Caseworkers processed over 146 <br />applications and worked with 122 families, dispersing $472,988.11 in donations from the <br />Salvation Army, Church of St. John's the Baptist, and the Hugo Long -Term Recovery Fund. <br />All money collected in donations has been given to the families in need by the Long Term <br />Recovery Committee. Mayor Fran Miron stated it was important for the City to step away from <br />any financial matters with these funds and specifically thanked Committee Chair Jim Gondek for <br />
