City Council Meeting of August 18, 2008 <br />Page 2 of 6 <br />Fran Miron thanked them for their volunteer efforts in the aftermath of the tornado and offered ways the <br />City would assist in educating the residents of CVS and recruiting volunteer by use of the City's <br />website, cable broadcast, and newsletter. <br />Presentation of Donation to the Hugo Relief Fund from the White Bear Area Chamber of <br />Commerce <br />Todd Lynch from Fastsigns in Maplewood presented a check on behalf of the White Bear Area Chamber <br />of Commerce to be donated to the Hugo Relief Fund to assist the victims of the May 25, 2008 tornado. <br />Todd explained the money came from the proceeds of a charity event sponsored by the Chamber. <br />Mayor Fran Miron and Hugo Business Association President Phil Kline accepted the $600 check on <br />behalf of the tornado survivors. The Mayor thanked Todd and the White Bear Area Chamber of <br />Commerce for their generous donation to the Hugo Relief Fund. <br />Approval of Consent Agenda <br />Haas made motion, Granger seconded, to approve the following Consent Agenda: <br />Approval of Claims <br />Approve Annual Lawful Gambling License for the Dead Broke Saddle Club at Blacksmith Lounge <br />Approve Job Description for Accounting Technician and Authorize Staff to Advertise for Position <br />Approve Contract for Reappointment of Smith Schafer & Associates as City Auditor <br />Approve Application for Off -Site Gambling for the White Bear Lake Hockey Association at the <br />American Legion <br />All Aye. Motion carried. <br />Approval of Claims <br />Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved the Claims Roster as presented. <br />Approve Annual Lawful Gambling License for the Dead Broke Saddle Club at Blacksmith <br />Loun e <br />The Dead Broke Saddle Club has made application to the City of Hugo for a charitable gambling license <br />for the sale of pull tabs at the Blacksmith Lounge. As Council is aware, the sale of the pull tabs <br />generates charitable gambling donations which are used throughout the City of Hugo in a number of <br />charitable service clubs, groups, and organizations. City staff has reviewed the application and found it <br />to be satisfactorily complete. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved the annual charitable lawful <br />gambling license for the Dead Broke Saddle Club for the sale of pull tabs at the Blacksmith Lounge. <br />Approve Job Description for Accounting Clerk and Authorize Staff to Advertise for Position <br />At its August 5, 2008 Midyear Budget Review meeting, the Council listened to a presentation from <br />Finance Director Ron Otkin, who highlighted issues related to the 2008 City budget. Included in the <br />2007 City Audit, City Auditor Jason Miller from Smith Schafer & Associates recommended that <br />Council consider the importance of the segregation of the duties in the Finance Department, and if <br />possible, the hiring of a staff person to allow for this. Included in the 2007 City budget was budgeting <br />for the Building Department Receptionist position formerly filled by Eileen Ottney, who left <br />
