RESOLUTION 1983-5 <br />POW/MIA RECOGNITION DAY PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS: Our nation has fought in many wars and thousands of Americans have <br />served in those wars, were captured by the enemy or became Missing in <br />Action; and <br />WHEREAS: Over 2,500 such men and women were left officially unaccounted for <br />when the conflict in Southeast Asia ended, including 46 Minnesota men; and <br />WHEREAS: 389 men were officially left unaccounted for when the Korean conflict <br />ended; and <br />WHEREAS: The American government is still receiving reports that indicate the <br />possibility that many others are still alive and being held thus creating <br />a situation many citizens of Minnesota consider unbearable; and <br />WHEREAS: President Ronald Reagan has defined 'bur common quest as the return of <br />all POWs, the fullest possible accounting for those still missing, and the <br />repatriation of the remains of those who died serving our nation"; and <br />WHEREAS: President Reagan has made these goals "the highest national priority" <br />and has "committed the full resources of our government" to achieving <br />these goals; and <br />WHEREAS: This nation now enjoys the blessings of peace because of all its <br />veterans and their dedication to duty, honor and sacrifice, and because <br />we recognize this special debt we owe these Prisoners of War and Missing <br />in Action; and <br />WHEREAS: POW/MIA organizations, veterans groups and all concerned citizens have <br />requested that a Saturday in April be set aside for all Minnesotans to gather <br />to show their support for a speedy solution to this unresolved POW/P1IA <br />situation; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I , J� )?1 ,L .,a a L- #7C,411:5 k/L, Mayor of the City of , <br />in the State of Minnesota, do hereby proclaim Saturday, April 9, 1983 to be <br />POW/MIA RECOGNITION DAY <br />and have prepared this proclamation for my signature and disseminate the same. <br />Further, I urge all citizens to show their support for these Vietnam Veterans who, <br />even while still missing, are still serving their country. <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF: I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of <br />our community to be affixed this (date of signing). <br />ADOPTED AND PASSED THIS 21st DAY OF March , 1983, <br />0.
