Main, announced today that a group of <br />.x . <br />vetetams 0rgani.z4tions and organizations concerned about POW -MIA's are planning a <br />recognition ceremony on April 9, 1983, on the steps of the State Capitol, at 1:00 p.m. <br />Gove.rn.6e-:'Perpich has signed a proclamation designating Saturday, April 9, 1983 as <br />Pd1-h11A (Phisoners Of War & Missing In Action) Recognition Day, to coincide with <br />the hbil0dal observance on that day. <br />` Ne WAnt the entire state to participate in recognizing that we have 2,500 unaccounted <br />for in tOutheast Asia," Main said. "We also have over 300 from the Korean War who have <br />h6ver:,been accounted for. In addition to remembering the MIA's, we want to offer our <br />thanks to the POW's for the sacrifices they made." <br />Several re.leted.events will take place the week of April 9. A Ceremony sponsored by <br />tHj t6fget60le-Not organization is planned in Fairmont on April 9. Earl Hopper, one of <br />this n3rcj,pi.zbes of the National League of Families of POW -MIA's and a member of delegatior <br />td 6bU!he`ast Asia to secure release of prisoners and remains, will be in the Twin Cities <br />to:r-meet.with various groups. He will participate in the Fairmont ceremonies. <br />KTCA-TV, Channel 2, will present a one-half hour live audience participation show on <br />POW-MIArS the evening of April 7, at 7:00 p.m. An additional half-hour of that <br />presentatibn will be shown on April 8, in the same time slot. People who wish to be in <br />the audience should be at the studio not later than 6:15 p.m. on April 7. <br />Maln stated that efforts are under way to get statewide recognition on April 9. "We <br />are asking organizations around the state to plan ceremonies," he said.
