TABLE II - POPULATION PROJECTION
Although the projections for Washington County and the total
Metropolitan Area have been reduced significantly since the
Planning District II estimates were prepared in 1968, the Villagr
projections seem to be quite accurate, if not even on the
conservative side. (1985 Planning District II estimate was 5,500.)
These estimates can be partially substantiated by analyzing
the age composition of the Village. The 1970 Census indicates
that Hugo is comprised of a very young population. (Approximately
47% of the population is younger than 18 years of age.) The
elderly, 65 years and over, constitute but 5% of the total
population, which is another indication of the future produc-
tivity potential of the population.
D. HOUSING CHARACTERISTICS
A great deal can be said about a community by just analyzing
its housing, since residential is the largest single land use.
Information pertaining to housing type, value, condition and the
presence of mobile homes can assist tremendously in pinpdirting
the residential personality of a community.
The Hugo land use survey indicates the following housing
composition as of September, 1972:
Type of Housing Quantity Percentage
Single Family Residential 568 70.3%
Single Family Farm Residential 111 13.6%
Multiple Family 18 02.2%
Mobile Home 111 13.6%
Vacant Farm Residential 3 00.3%
Total 811 100.0%
9
1970
1980
1990
2000
2010
Hugo
2,669
4,700
8,600
17,300
28,700
Washington
County
82,948
118,800
185,800
267,500
378,000
Twin Cities
Metro Area
1,874,380
2,230,100
2,687,000
3,176,300
3,705,700
Although the projections for Washington County and the total
Metropolitan Area have been reduced significantly since the
Planning District II estimates were prepared in 1968, the Villagr
projections seem to be quite accurate, if not even on the
conservative side.
