City Council meeting of January 2, 2007 Page 2 department in Washington County for a communications grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This joint application was an effort by the Washington County Fire Chiefs to obtain federal funding for the new 800 MHz communications system that Washington County has planned for the past several years to bring online in late 2007/2008. Washington County received notification from FEMA that a $1,000,000 grant had been awarded to Washington County for 800 MHz communications system equipment, including new radios. The City of Lake Elmo and its Fire Chief Greg Malmquist took a leadership role in the summer of 2006 on this grant application. Fire Chief Jim Compton and Assistant Chief Jadon 011ila presented specifics of the grant and Mayor Miron expressed the Council's appreciation for their leadership. Miron made motion, Haas seconded, to approve the acceptance of the FEMA grant for 800 MHz communications equipment. All aye. Motion Carried.
