City Council meeting of January 2, 2007 <br />Page 2 <br />department in Washington County for a communications grant from the Federal Emergency <br />Management Agency (FEMA). This joint application was an effort by the Washington County Fire <br />Chiefs to obtain federal funding for the new 800 MHz communications system that Washington County <br />has planned for the past several years to bring online in late 2007/2008. Washington County received <br />notification from FEMA that a $1,000,000 grant had been awarded to Washington County for 800 MHz <br />communications system equipment, including new radios. The City of Lake Elmo and its Fire Chief <br />Greg Malmquist took a leadership role in the summer of 2006 on this grant application. Fire Chief Jim <br />Compton and Assistant Chief Jadon 011ila presented specifics of the grant and Mayor Miron expressed <br />the Council's appreciation for their leadership. <br />Miron made motion, Haas seconded, to approve the acceptance of the FEMA grant for 800 MHz <br />communications equipment. <br />All aye.
