Council directed staff to discuss with the WCSO
the current level of service to determine what, if any, changes need to be made. Council identified
community policing/long-term planning as its focus for the City of Hugo, a population which now
exceeds 10,000. City Administrator Mike Ericson met recently with Sheriff Steve Pott and Commander
Tim Tuthill to discuss Council's desire to look at the long-term police protection needs of the
community. Present at the meeting was Sheriff Steve Pott to discuss with Council the current level of
service and how the Sheriffs department wishes to meet the needs of the community in the future. The
second issue discussed was the 800 mgz communication system in Washington County. In April 2006,
the Washington County Board approved nearly $10 million dollars in funding to implement the 800 mgz
digital radio system. Council member Granger suggested that Council schedule a workshop in late
summer to meet with the WCSO to discuss these issues in more detail.
