City Council meeting of May 2, 2005
Page 8
foot footprint) officetwarehouse building on a vacant lot, a conditional use permit to allow outside
storage, and a variance to allow a 30 -foot side yard setback where 40 feet is required. The Planning
Commission reviewed this item at their April 28th meeting and recommended approval with a 6-1 vote.
City planner Kendra Lindahl provided Council with a background of the proposal, as well as reviewing
the site plan. Kendra noted the lack of convenient parking for the internal businesses, and that the
variance request meets variance standards. Council agreed that the proposed building is a difficult "fit"
on the lot but meets ordinance requirements.
Granger made motion, Haas seconded, to adopt RESOLUTION 2005-28 APPROVING SITE PLAN,
CUP, AND VARIANCE FOR PAVEMENT GUYS HOLDINGS LLC IN THE PELOQUIN
INDUSTRIAL PARK.
VOTING AYE: Granger, Haas, Petryk, Puleo, Miron
Motion Carried.
DISCUSSION OF HOME OCCUPATION ORDINANCE
The Planning Commission established as one of its goals for 2005 to revise the Home Occupation
ordinance. The Planning Commission discussed the ordinance at its meeting on April 14, 2005 and
discussed their ideas for revisions of the ordinance. The Commission appointed Victoria Hoflbeck and
Tom Weidt to serve on a subcommittee to draft new language for the ordinance for future consideration
by the Planning Commission. CD Director Bryan Bear presented Council with an overview of the
Planning Commission's discussion. Staff requested direction from Council on how to proceed with the
home occupation ordinance, and whether any Council members are interested in serving on the
subcommittee. After discussion, Council wanted to make sure the PC and Council were headed in the
same direction and suggested that a joint workshop be held.
Granger made motion, Puleo seconded, to schedule a joint Council/Planning Commission workshop for
Thursday, June 23, 2005, at 7:00 pm, to discuss the City's home occupation ordinance.
All aye. Motion Carried.
RURAL & OPEN SPACE PRESERVATION ORDINANCE 2005-397
Council member Frank Puleo requested this item be placed on the agenda as he has been approached by
residents who want to develop their property. These residents live in the rural area of Hugo and do not
meet the terms and conditions of the ordinance.
Miron made motion, Granger seconded, to table this matter until the Council meeting of May 16, 2005.
All aye.
