City Council meeting of June 7, 2004 <br />Page 10 <br />completion of the work and payment for work completed on the project. City staff recommended <br />Council provide direction as to the approval of the payment request in the amount of $426,327.72. <br />City Attorney Dave Snyder recommended that Council either deny the payment request or table the <br />matter. <br />Miron made motion, Puleo seconded, to deny the payment request from the RCWD for $426,327.72, <br />based on the City's Cooperative Agreement with the RCWD. <br />All aye. Motion Carried. <br />DISCUSSION OF NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM SIGNS <br />Deputy Amy Sprague from the WCSO has been involved with the City's first-ever Neighborhood Watch <br />Program (NWP) as part of her extra duties with the Sheriffs department. Her special focus has been <br />developing NWP in the City, and she has recommended the installation of Neighborhood Watch signs <br />on City entrance signs. The NWP is working very well in neighborhoods such as Sweet Grass <br />Meadows, and City staff reported that the NWP signs have been installed. <br />CHAMPION OF INDUSTRIES 300 <br />The City received notification that it was a selected as a possible recipient of the "Champions of Industry <br />300" award given to small communities under 10,000 population, and, if selected, would be recognized <br />on CNN's Headline News Network. The cost to the City would be $28,000 for production expenses. <br />This issue was informational and no formal Council action was taken on this matter. <br />COMMUNITY GYMNASIUM FACILITY UPDATE <br />City Administrator Mike Ericson provided Council with a brief update on the funding for the new <br />community facility. He and Council member Becky Petryk met with the WBL Superintendent Ted <br />Blaesing last week on this and tax abate. The City is continuing to work with the school district to <br />address the funding issue. <br />SWAT TEAM/FIRE DEPARTMENT TRAINING <br />Miron made motion, Haas seconded, to approve the use of the Rice property for SWAT team and HFD <br />training purposes on June 16, 2004. <br />All aye. Motion Carried. <br />DISCUSS PROPOSED FIREWORKS ORDINANCE <br />CITY OF HUGO INTERNSHIP PROGRAM <br />Because of the lateness of the meeting: <br />Miron made motion, Petryk seconded, to table these agenda items until the meeting of June 21, 2004. <br />All aye. Motion Carried. <br />
