City Council meeting of August 16, 2004 <br />Page 5 <br />APPROVE RESIGNATION FROM DEPUTY CLERK RENEE' CUNNINGHAM AND <br />AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE FOR POSITION <br />Renee' Cunningham submitted her letter of resignation to the City effective August 31, 2004. Renee's <br />former employer, St. Paul Companies, has made her an offer that she has accepted. Renee' has been <br />employed by the City for more than two years and has been an exemplary employee, who will be deeply <br />missed. City Administrator stated that administrative intern Tom Denaway will fill in for Renee' until <br />the position is filled and publicly thanked Renee' for her excellent work and commitment. <br />Miron made motion, Haas seconded, to accept the resignation from Renee' effective August 31, 2004 <br />and directed staff to immediately advertise for the position. They both thanked her, as well, for her <br />excellent work for the City. <br />All aye. Motion Carried. <br />UPDATE ON AUGUST 4.2004 MCES MEETING <br />At its August 2, 2004 regular meeting, Council recessed the meeting in order Council member <br />attendance at the public informational meeting held in the Oneka Room with officials from the <br />Metropolitan Council Environmental Services. The officials provided Council and attendees updates on <br />the actions taken regarding the short-term solution for providing sanitary sewer capacity for housing in <br />the northeast sanitary sewer district. Mayor Fran Miron and Council members provided an update on the <br />information shared at the meeting and the improvements that are scheduled to be installed by spring <br />2005. CD Director Bryan Bear stated that MCES officials will attend the September 7, 2004 Council <br />meeting. No formal Council action was taken. <br />PROPOSED RAILROAD SPUR IN BALD EAGLE INDUSTRIAL PARK <br />City staff has continued to meet with John Gohmann from Minnesota Commercial Railroad and John <br />and Joel Schwieters in order to provide railroad service into the Bald Eagle Industrial Park. On <br />Thursday, August 12, 2004, Mayor Fran Miron, CD Director Bryan Bear, Administrative Intern Tom <br />Denaway, and City Administrator Mike Ericson met with the Schwieter brothers to discuss the <br />construction of the track into the BEIP. Construction of the track would take place yet in 2004, with <br />project costs funded, in part, by property owners and the City. Mayor Miron provided an update on <br />issues relative to the proposed railroad spur. Council discussed allocating TIF funds for construction of <br />a traffic signal at 13& Street and TH61, and felt that the $ 138,793 should be used for construction of the <br />railroad spur to meet City obligations contained in the BEIP TIF plan. No formal Council was taken. <br />UPDATE ON ONEKA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GYMNASIUM <br />At its June 7, 2004 meeting, Council discussed the proposed fitness center in the new elementary school; <br />specifically, the City Administrator Mike Ericson presented Council with the proposed new community <br />center that Pulte Homes will be building in the Water's Edge residential subdivision. Additionally, <br />Mike presented the proposed pool and community, which will be built in the Victor Gardens <br />subdivision. Council directed staff to revisit the issue with the school district and to explore the <br />expansion of the gymnasium versus the fitness center. Staff met with LHB architects and Kraus- <br />
