Council discussed the issue in a workshop setting,
and directed staff to place the item on an upcoming agenda in order to discuss it further and to provide
direction to staff regarding the scheduling of a meeting with the WBL City Council.
Miron made motion, Haas seconded, directing staff to schedule a meeting in 2005.
All aye. Motion Carried.
CITY OF GRANT CAMPAIGN FLIERS
In the recent November election, candidates for the City of Grant council mentioned the City of Hugo in
their fliers with erroneous information.
Miron made motion, Petryk seconded, directing staff to research and reply to the City of Grant.
All aye. Motion Carried.
PROPOSED REUSE OF OLD CITY HALL GARAGE
At its October 18, 2004 meeting, Council listened to HBA president, Katie Riopel, who presented
Council with her strong desire to refirbish the old City Hall in order to provide a location for youth
activities. As Council is aware, youth activity nights are supervised by the HBA in the Lions garage, but
with the colder weather, those activities have been temporarily halted. Council directed staff to meet
with HBA and Lion members in order to explore alternatives. On November 1, 2004, Mike Gallivan
from the Hugo Lions Club and Jim Faulkner, local contractor, met with PW Director Chris Petree,
Building Official John Benson, and City Administrator Mike Ericson at the old City Hall to discuss
alternatives and options. After extensive discussion, and an inspection of the detached former HFD
garage, both parties agreed that retrofit of the detached garage would provide the best short-term solution
for a location for youth activity nights. Mike Gallivan stated that he would discuss with Katie this
option, and Chris Petree, later on, provided an inspection visit for Katie. City staff recommended
Council provide the HBA and Lions the opportunity to utilize donated material and labor to retrofit the
former HFD detached garage for reuse for the youth activity nights. No formal City Council action was
taken.
