City Council meeting of January 6, 2003 <br />Page 3 <br />APPOINTMENT OF CIVIL DEFENSE DIRECTOR <br />Each year, the Council appoints a member. of City staff for the role of civil defense director. For the past <br />several years, the Fire Chief has been appointed as the City's civil defense director. Adoption of the <br />Consent Agenda appointed Fire Chief Jim Compton as the City's civil defense director for 2003. <br />APPOINTMENT OF DEPOSITORY FOR CITY FUNDS <br />Annually, the Council selects a depository/bank for the deposit of City funds. For the past several years, <br />Council has selected the local bank, U.S. Bank. Adoption of the Consent Agenda appointed Hugo's <br />U.S. Bank as the official depository for City funds for 2003. <br />APPOINTMENT OF OFFICIAL NEWSPAPER <br />Annually, the Council selects a newspaper as the official publication for all public notices and <br />publishing of the ordinances. For the past several years, the Council has selected the White Bear Press <br />as the City's official newspaper. Adoption of the Consent Agenda appointed the White Bear Press as the <br />City's official newspaper for public notices and publishing for 2003. <br />APPOINTMENT OF BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS <br />Last year, the Council appointed Planning Commission Chair Dave Schumann, Council member Frank <br />Puleo, and citizen Bernie Brunotte to serve on the Board of Zoning Appeals. Adoption of the Consent <br />Agenda appointed the same members to serve on the Board of Zoning Appeals for 2003. <br />APPROVE RESCHEDULING OF JANUARY 20TH COUNCIL MEETING TO JAN 21ST <br />The federal holiday for Martin Luther King's birthday falls on Monday, January 20, 2003. Adoption of <br />the Consent Agenda approved rescheduling of the second regular meeting to Tuesday, January 21, 2003 <br />at 7:00 pm. <br />APPROVE APPOINTMENT OF JODIE GUARESCHI TO FULIrTIME EMPLOYEE <br />Jodie Guareschi was originally hired one year ago as the City's temporary receptionist to fill in for an <br />employee who left the City. Jodie was then hired on a probationary period on June 17, 2002 as the <br />City's new utility billing clerk working primarily in the finance department with Finance Director Ron <br />Otkin. From the volunteer envelope stuffer, to the City's utility billing clerk, Jodie has diligently <br />worked her way up the ladder demonstrating a strong work ethic, positive City Hall attitude, and take - <br />charge ability with new assignments. She has proven to be a valued member of the City Hall team. <br />Adoption of the Consent Agenda appointed Jodie as a regular full-time City employee having <br />successfully completed her six-month probationary period, and that her salary adjustment be made as per <br />the City's salary matrix. <br />APPROVE VARIANCE FOR RESIDENTIAL ADDITION (HEIMERL) <br />Steve and Sheri Heimerl are requesting approval of a 25.5 -foot rear yard setback where 30 feet is <br />
