City Council meeting of January 6, 2003 Page 3 APPOINTMENT OF CIVIL DEFENSE DIRECTOR Each year, the Council appoints a member. of City staff for the role of civil defense director. For the past several years, the Fire Chief has been appointed as the City's civil defense director. Adoption of the Consent Agenda appointed Fire Chief Jim Compton as the City's civil defense director for 2003. APPOINTMENT OF DEPOSITORY FOR CITY FUNDS Annually, the Council selects a depository/bank for the deposit of City funds. For the past several years, Council has selected the local bank, U.S. Bank. Adoption of the Consent Agenda appointed Hugo's U.S. Bank as the official depository for City funds for 2003. APPOINTMENT OF OFFICIAL NEWSPAPER Annually, the Council selects a newspaper as the official publication for all public notices and publishing of the ordinances. For the past several years, the Council has selected the White Bear Press as the City's official newspaper. Adoption of the Consent Agenda appointed the White Bear Press as the City's official newspaper for public notices and publishing for 2003. APPOINTMENT OF BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS Last year, the Council appointed Planning Commission Chair Dave Schumann, Council member Frank Puleo, and citizen Bernie Brunotte to serve on the Board of Zoning Appeals. Adoption of the Consent Agenda appointed the same members to serve on the Board of Zoning Appeals for 2003. APPROVE RESCHEDULING OF JANUARY 20TH COUNCIL MEETING TO JAN 21ST The federal holiday for Martin Luther King's birthday falls on Monday, January 20, 2003. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved rescheduling of the second regular meeting to Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at 7:00 pm. APPROVE APPOINTMENT OF JODIE GUARESCHI TO FULIrTIME EMPLOYEE Jodie Guareschi was originally hired one year ago as the City's temporary receptionist to fill in for an employee who left the City. Jodie was then hired on a probationary period on June 17, 2002 as the City's new utility billing clerk working primarily in the finance department with Finance Director Ron Otkin. From the volunteer envelope stuffer, to the City's utility billing clerk, Jodie has diligently worked her way up the ladder demonstrating a strong work ethic, positive City Hall attitude, and take - charge ability with new assignments. She has proven to be a valued member of the City Hall team. Adoption of the Consent Agenda appointed Jodie as a regular full-time City employee having successfully completed her six-month probationary period, and that her salary adjustment be made as per the City's salary matrix. APPROVE VARIANCE FOR RESIDENTIAL ADDITION (HEIMERL) Steve and Sheri Heimerl are requesting approval of a 25.5 -foot rear yard setback where 30 feet is
