MINUTES FOR THE HUGO CITY COUNCIL/PUBLIC WORKS WORKSHOP MEETING OF <br />JANUARY 28.2002 <br />Mayor Fran Miron called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. <br />PRESENT: Granger, Haas, Petryk, Puleo, Miron <br />City Administrator, Michael Ericson <br />City Public Works Director, Chris Petree <br />City Engineer, Dave Mitchell <br />DISCUSSION ON WASHINGTON COUNTY'S TRANSFER OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />DEPARTMENT TO THE CITY OF HUGO <br />Washington County Operations Manager Greg Felt shared with the Council the timeline for the County to <br />move to a 24/7 operation. Washington County will not renew its contract with the City of Hugo, which <br />expires on June 30, 2002. The County will begin a four-year phase-in plan to become a 24/7 operation by <br />2006, and will be available to assist the City in its transition to provide City only public works services. <br />Hugo is a state aid city. Greg reported on the meetings he had with Kieger Enterprises to resolve the <br />remaining issues for the snowplowing work. <br />PUBLIC WORKS EQUIPMENT/STAFFING (CHRIS PETREEI <br />Greg Felt informed Council and staff that the County will make available to its contract cities one motor <br />grader and three snowplow trucks. The motor grader would sell for $25,000 and the trucks for about <br />$30,000. <br />Hass made motion, Petryk seconded, authorizing staff to negotiate the purchase of one motor grader and <br />two of the newest plow trucks. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />The County will make them available in April 2002. <br />Hass made motion, Petryk seconded, directing staff to begin negotiations with the County to provide <br />snowplow services with a private contractor. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />Miron made motion, Granger seconded, directing staff to prepare a job description and salary ranges for a <br />maintenance worker, which would include equipment operator duties to operate a motor grader. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />Council discussed summer seasonal workers. <br />Miron made motion, Granger seconded, to authorize staff to advertise for the workers in April. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />
