City Council meeting of February 5, 2001 <br />Page 9 <br />ordinance eliminating the Board of Appeals and Adjustments and delegating to the Planning <br />Commission certain responsibilities for reviewing variances and hearing zoning appeals. In review of <br />this. matter, Community Development Direct John Rask identified three options for consideration by the <br />City Council. These options give the Planning Commission various levels of responsibility in the <br />review of variances and_aI vats. Mr. Rask notade a presentation to. the Council owWa.. mm. __._ _ <br />requested Council consider approval of an ordinance that would give the Planning Commission the <br />authority to approve or deny variances, subject to appeal to the City Council. Councilman Puled felt <br />that the Board of Appeals should remain intact as it provides a necessary service to the City. <br />Miron made motion, Petryk seconded, to table this matter to allow the Planning Commission'to review <br />the proposed ordinance. <br />All aye. Motion Carried. <br />Miron made motion, Haas seconded, to appoint the following to the Board of Zoning Adjustments: <br />Frank Puleo, Dave Schumann, and Bernard Brunotte. <br />VOTING AYE: Granger, Haas, Petryk, Miron <br />ABSTAINED: Puled <br />Motion Carried. <br />ORDINANCE AMENDMENT ELIIMI HATING THE APPOINTMENT OF ALTERNATE <br />PLANNING CON MSSION MEMBER <br />In the fall of 2000, the Council directed staff to hold a public hearing with the Planning Commission on <br />the newly created alternate Planning Commissioner, which had been created by the Council in 1999. <br />The PC held a hearing on this issue, and recommended Council either eliminate the alternate <br />Planning Commissioner positions, or retain the alternate members and appoint a person to fill the <br />vacancy created when alternate member Patrick Rooney was appointed as a regular member. <br />Miron made motion, Granger seconded, directing staff the Planning Commission to hold a hearing to <br />consider an ordinance eliminating the appointment of alternate PC members. <br />Miron made motion, Haas seconded, to amend the previous motion that staff send a letter to David <br />Buller notifying him of the Council directive, and let him know that the City appreciates his work on . <br />the Planning Commission and this in no way is reflective of his efforts. <br />VOTING AYE ON AMENDMENT: All aye.
