City Council meeting of February 5, 2001 Page 9 ordinance eliminating the Board of Appeals and Adjustments and delegating to the Planning Commission certain responsibilities for reviewing variances and hearing zoning appeals. In review of this. matter, Community Development Direct John Rask identified three options for consideration by the City Council. These options give the Planning Commission various levels of responsibility in the review of variances and_aI vats. Mr. Rask notade a presentation to. the Council owWa.. mm. __._ _ requested Council consider approval of an ordinance that would give the Planning Commission the authority to approve or deny variances, subject to appeal to the City Council. Councilman Puled felt that the Board of Appeals should remain intact as it provides a necessary service to the City. Miron made motion, Petryk seconded, to table this matter to allow the Planning Commission'to review the proposed ordinance. All aye. Motion Carried. Miron made motion, Haas seconded, to appoint the following to the Board of Zoning Adjustments: Frank Puleo, Dave Schumann, and Bernard Brunotte. VOTING AYE: Granger, Haas, Petryk, Miron ABSTAINED: Puled Motion Carried. ORDINANCE AMENDMENT ELIIMI HATING THE APPOINTMENT OF ALTERNATE PLANNING CON MSSION MEMBER In the fall of 2000, the Council directed staff to hold a public hearing with the Planning Commission on the newly created alternate Planning Commissioner, which had been created by the Council in 1999. The PC held a hearing on this issue, and recommended Council either eliminate the alternate Planning Commissioner positions, or retain the alternate members and appoint a person to fill the vacancy created when alternate member Patrick Rooney was appointed as a regular member. Miron made motion, Granger seconded, directing staff the Planning Commission to hold a hearing to consider an ordinance eliminating the appointment of alternate PC members. Miron made motion, Haas seconded, to amend the previous motion that staff send a letter to David Buller notifying him of the Council directive, and let him know that the City appreciates his work on . the Planning Commission and this in no way is reflective of his efforts. VOTING AYE ON AMENDMENT: All aye. Motion Carried. VOTING AYE ON ORIGINAL MOTION: Granger, Haas, Puleo, Miron ABSTAINED: Petryk Motion Carried.
