City Council meeting of December 3, 2001
Page 6
VACANCIES ON THE BCWD
The BCWD made its announcement of two vacancies on its Board of Managers. Mayor Miron and the
Council made this public announcement on behalf of citizens living in the BCWD who may be
interested in serving on the Board.
REQUEST FROM WBL SCHOOLS FOR APPOINTMENT TO COMMUNITY SERVICES
ADVISORY COUNCIL
WBL's school Community Services Director Dave Guenther submitted a letter to the City seeking
interest in having a City official serve on its advisory council for recreational programming activities
for the City of Hugo currently provided by WBL city staff. Councilman Granger suggested that Pete
Pedersen be approached to see if he would be interested in serving.
Miron made motion, Puleo seconded, to appoint Councilman Mike Granger to serve on the Community
Services Advisory Council or until Pete Pedersen from the Parks Commission agrees to serve on the
Advisory Council.
All aye. Motion Carried.
UPDATE ON JOINT COUNCHJPC MEETING OF DECEMBER 1. 2001
Mayor Miron updated "viewers" on the meeting held on 12/1/01.
PACING OF DEVELOPMENT
Council member Petryk felt the Council should discuss development once the moratorium is lifted in
February 2002. She felt it was important that the City maintain a balance between development and the
volume of work that could be handled by staff. There was a question whether the City could legally
"cap" the number of building permits issued.
Miron made motion, Haas seconded, directing staff to follow up on this discussion and report to the
Council in the next couple of months.
All aye. Motion Carried.
COUNTY CONTRACT FOR SNOWPLOWING
The Washington County Highway Department agreed to use local company Kieger Enterprises to
provide for its snowplowing services for the 2001 -2002 -winter season. The significant wet snowfall of
November 2e created a multitude of problems that were not addressed to the satisfaction of the
Washington County Public Works and the City of Hugo Public Works Dept. Staff placed this issue on
the agenda for discussion by the Council and public acknowledgement of the problems incurred by the
citizens with the dramatic 9" snowfall. The City received a large number of complaints primarily with
delay in snowplowing, and damage to mailboxes and sod. Staff informed Council that the County
terminated the contractor Kieger Enterprises after the snowfall.
