City Council meeting of June 5, 2000 <br />Page 2 <br />HIRING OF SUMMER ENGINEERING INTERN <br />Public Works Superintendent, Chris Petree, posted the summer engineering intern position at the U <br />of M engineering school, and received one applicant for the position. He interviewed the <br />applicant, along with Tom Tabler of SEH, and both agreed that she (Meredith Mormann) would be <br />an excellent choice to assist the City in developing a pavement management program for the <br />summer of 2000. City staff recommended the hiring of Meredith Mormann for the summer of <br />2000 at a rate of $12.00/hr. She is scheduled to start on June 12, 2000. Adoption of the Consent <br />Agenda approved the hiring of the intern, as presented. <br />HIRING OF PUBLIC WORKS MAINTENANCE WORKER <br />City staff advertised for the position of public works maintenance worker. Four candidates were <br />selected from the pool of applicants and interviewed for the position. City staff recommended the <br />hiring of Thomas W. Smith for the position of public works maintenance worker. His background <br />experience. education, and successful interview made him the top selection of the interview team. <br />The interview team consisted of Public Works Superintendent, Chris Petree; City Administrator, <br />Mike Ericson; and Centerville Public Works Director, Paul Palzer. The advertised salary range for <br />the position was $12.40 to $15.50 per hour. Based on Mr. Smith's experience, staff recommended <br />he be offered the position at a rate of $14.00/hour, including a successful preemployment physical <br />and drug screening. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved the hiring of Mr. Tom Smith. <br />PARKS COMMISSION (RECOMMENDATION TO RESEARCH DEED FOR SUNSET <br />LAKE PARK <br />The Hugo Parks Commission needs Council authorization to permit the City Attorney to research <br />the deed to parkland. One possible solution to the Sunset Lake Park issue may be to sell the one <br />acre site to the homeowners' association, and that option needs to be examined and reviewed in <br />regard to any deed restrictions. Adoption of the Consent Agenda authorized the City Attorney do <br />this background work. <br />GENERAL CLAIMS <br />Council members questioned the claims from Paul Haik for JD2 and costs incurred for the <br />Ramberg request for a CUP. These items will be clarified at later discussions. <br />Haas made motion, Leroux seconded, to approve the claims for June 5, 2000, in the amount of <br />$126,723.09. <br />All aye. Motion Carried. <br />G.2 MINING PERMIT (DEAN ATKINSON) <br />Dean and Ruby Atkinson, 13452 Goodview Avenue, made application to the City of Hugo <br />for renewal of their Mining Permit.
