Planning Commission Minutes — August 26, 2010
Page 2
Arcand asked how it would save money if they need just as many trips to get the salt to the
storage building
Public Works Director, Scott Anderson, answered that there was a handling charge per ton and
on top of that the overtime hours and cost to pay employees to pick up the salt during nighttime
hours.
Moore stated that he could see the savings because it would be purchased direct from the
supplier at one time.
Scott answered that there would also be room for city growth because the building could hold a
maximum of 1,300 tons of salt. During the summer they could use the building for trap rock for
gravel roads.
Schumann asked about the cost of the building and life expectancy.
Scott answered that it would cost about roughly $95,000- $100,000 and would last 25-30 years.
After 11.5 years the building would have paid for itself.
Gwynn added that this was a better design than other buildings he has seen.
Gwynn Motioned, Arcand Seconded to approve the request.
All aye, motion carried.
Adjournment
Arcand motioned, Gwynn seconded, to adjourn.
All Ayes. Motion carried.
Meeting adjourned.
Dennis Fields
Planning Commission Secretary
