MINUTES FOR THE HUGO PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING
JULY 269 2000
Planning Commission Chairperson Puleo called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.
Roll Call
PRESENT: Kellison, Kleissler, Malaski, McRoberts, Peltier, Schumann, Puleo
City Planner, Dan Cornejo
City Community Development Director
City Building Official, John Benson
Deputy Clerk, Michele Lindau
Minutes of June 28, 2000
McRoberts made motion, Kleissler seconded, to approve the minutes of June 28, 2000, as
amended.
Ayes: Kellison, Kleissler, Malaski, McRoberts, Peltier, Schumann
Abstain: Puleo
Motion carried.
Driveway Ordinance Amendment
The Planning Commission considered amending Hugo City Code Chapter 320, Sec. 6.19 to
change the maximum driveway width at the street, as requested by area contractors and residents.
The purpose of the amendment is to accommodate larger garage sizes. Passing of the new
zoning ordinance on July 27, 1999, changed the maximum driveway width at the street from 22'
to 16'. The Planning Commission considered staff reports from the Hugo Code Enforcement
Officer, City Engineer, and the Community Development Director.
Kellison stated the increase in maximum driveway width would increase impervious surface.
The Community Development Director pointed out that the ordinance allowed a maximum of
50% to be covered by impervious surface, and increasing the maximum driveway width would
not allow them to exceed this amount.
Schumann commented that builders should consider moving homes back to allow more driveway
space, which would keep the cars off the sidewalks, and Malaski stated more driveway space
would encourage more exterior storage in driveways.
Puleo stated that if the City is allowing triple garages, they should allow driveways to
accommodate them.
Kellison made motion, Peltier seconded, to recommend the City Council not change the
maximum driveway width at the curb, leaving it at 16'.
