restored. Parks Commission members Pete Pederson and Roger Clarke have had several
meetings with the Hanson family to discuss the possible acquisition of this property.
3. RICE LAKE PARK
The City originally purchased the property from the White Bear Rod and Gun club back in
the mid 80's. Since then, the majority of the property had remained in an undeveloped
condition. Up until this past spring many of the old buildings were still standing, which over
time had become a hazard.
The park property is approximately 70 acres, however only about 25 acres are considered
upland and usable. The park consists of two large multi -use athletic fields which are large
enough to accommodate 5 regulation sized irrigated soccer fields. With youth fields being
much smaller, there is the ability to accommodate up to 10 smaller fields depending on the
age of the players.
There are two parking lots with the ability to park up to 200 cars. Also included are several
paved walking trails, which will make it easy for families to access some of the fields that are
further from the parking lots.
A sub -committee has been formed to develop a proposal from the Hanifil Foundation to fund
phase 2 of the park. This phase consists of a field house with restrooms, a concession area
and a warming room. Phase 2 also includes plans for a play structure and possible hockey
rink.
4. CLEARWATER CREEK PRESERVE (See attached maps)
Clearwater Creek Preserve is approximately 96 acres in size. It is considered a passive park
and has remained unimproved except for the woodchip trail installed by Eagle Scout
members in 2007. (See Map)
S OAKSHORE PARK (See attached plan)
This property consists of 10 acres of park property recently obtained by the City from the
Oakshore Park Homeowners Association. The park currently includes a picnic shelter,
sliding hill, play equipment and'/2 court basketball as well as two parking lots. There is a
bituminous walking path that accesses the western portion of the park where several picnic
tables and benches have been placed. Several components of the park are still in progress,
including horseshoe pits and a backstop for pick up style baseball and softball games. Trees
and plantings will be completed in the next month.
2
