Crystal Parke and Recreation Tobacco -Free Policy 9/08 The tobacco -free recreation policy states that the City of Crystal views tobacco use during its city sponsored recreation activities and at Crystal neighborhood playground facilities as an unacceptable behavior. Tha tobacco -free recreation policy prohibits tobacco use during any city sponsored youth event at city owned youth athletic fields, courts, and rinks (softball, baseball, soccer, hockey, tennis, basketball, football, etc.). The policy generally applies to leaders, pardcipants, and spectators. In add"rtlon, all city owned playground facilities are also tobacco --free. The City of Crystal Parks and Recreation Department is committed to the quality of i'rfe for all residents, therefore, we believe that: • Tobacco product use in the proximity of children. Youth and adults engaging in or watching recreational activities in unhealthy and detrimental to the health of others. • Tobacco products once consumed in public spaces are often discarded on the ground, thus posing a risk of ingestion to toddlers and causing a litter problem. As parents, leaders, coaches, and officials we are thought of as role models, and the use of tobacco products around youth has a negative effect on their lifestyle choices. • This policy will be reviewed on an annual basis by the Crystal Park and Recreation Advisory Commission. Tobacco -Free Facilities + Crystal Community Center • Crystar Cove Aquatic Center • Crystal Skate Park • Park Shelter Buildings • All Crystal playgrounds + City owned athletic fields, courts, and rinks (softball, baseball, soccer, hockey, tennis, basketball, football, etc.) during city sponsored youth only recreation activities. GOMAPLIANICE, PRQCEDME- The emphasis on enforcing the Tobacco -Free policy is through voluntary compliance: • Appropriate city -owned playground facility and programmed park facilities will be signed • Crystal Park and Recreation staff will meet with city sponsored activity leaders and/or coaches to discuss the policy and to distribute .flyers with the °Tobacco Free" regulations. • Crystal Parc and Recreation staff will make periodic observations of activity sites to monitor compliance.
