Agenda Number: V <br />CITY OF HUGO <br />PARKS COMMISSION REPORT <br />TO: Parks, Recreation and Open Space Commission <br />FROM: Shayla Syverson, Parks Planner <br />SUBJECT: Spring/ Summer 2011 Recreation Programs <br />DATE: March 2, 2011 for the Parks Commission meeting of March 9, 2011 <br />1. BACKGROUND: <br />The Parks, Recreation and Open Space Commission continues to expand recreation <br />programs offered to Hugo residents. In the summer of 2010, the City of Hugo held the <br />Lions Den Teen program in partnership with White Bear Lake Community Services and <br />Recreation. There are opportunities to add additional recreational opportunities as well <br />as continue with the successful programs previously held. <br />2. RECREATION PROGRAM PLAN: <br />In 2011, staff is proposing to expand recreation program offerings to include a soccer <br />clinic, skate camp, and an outdoor movie night as well as hold the Lions Den Teen <br />Program. <br />Lions Den Teen Program <br />Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:00pm- 5:30pm <br />June 21- August 258 <br />Lions Park <br />The Lion's Den is a program free for everyone aged 10-15. Youth can play soccer, <br />kickball, baseball, football, water games, basketball, or check out the new skate park. <br />The teen program utilizes the baseball fields, garage, tennis courts, skate park and all of <br />the other facilities at Lions Park. The program is held in partnership with White Bear <br />Lake Community Services and Recreation. They hire two Supervisors for the Lions Den <br />and we compensate them for providing staff. The City of Hugo also provides equipment <br />such as soccer balls, water fun equipment, basketballs, etc. Budget: $4,000 <br />
