CITY OF HUGO <br />PARKS COMMISSION REPORT <br />TO: Parks, Recreation and Open Space Commission <br />FROM: Shayla Syverson, Parks Planner <br />SUBJECT: Health Up and GO Wellness Challenge <br />DATE: March 2, 2011 for the Parks Commission meeting of March 9, 2011 <br />1. BACKGROUND: <br />At the meeting of February 22, 2011, the City Council approved a contract with <br />Washington County for a grant from the Statewide Health Improvement Program. The <br />Health Sub -Committee has been meeting regularly to coordinate a wellness campaign <br />that emphasizes physical activity opportunities in Hugo. <br />2. PROPOSED CHALLENGE: <br />The members of the Health Sub -Committee have named the campaign Health Up and GO <br />Wellness Challenge. The challenge will kick-off at an event held on Saturday, April 30th <br />at City Hall and conclude with a family bike ride on Saturday, September 24. <br />Throughout the summer challenge participants will be sent opportunities to attend health <br />related classes and events. <br />3. Health Up and GO WELLNESS CHALLENGE KICK-OFF- April 30, 2011 <br />The kick-off event will be held at Hugo City Hall from 9:00 am—12:00pm and feature <br />and exhibit hall and speakers. There will be the following booths in the Oneka Room: <br />"Know Your Numbers" (Fairview Clinic and Health East)- participants will be able to <br />have their blood pressure, body mass index, and blood glucose checked. They will be <br />given a kit with helpful tools for addressing problem "numbers". <br />Snap Fitness <br />Walking Club (Hugo Chiropractic)- sign-up for and receive additional information about <br />the NEW Walking Club. <br />
