BRAUER & AssOCIATEs, LTD.
Lions Park Master Plan Project
City of Hugo, MN
August 8, 2012
Concept Review Meeting Summary
Overview: The preliminary concept review open house meeting for the Lions Park planning process was
attended by approximately 10 people. The goal of the meeting was to determine the amenities desired
and the preferred arrangements of the various features. There was good discussion among the participants
with most of the audience contributing to the conversation. Overall, Concept #3 was preferred which
focuses on an organic shape and having one large building that supports kitchen, restrooms, storage,
picnicking cover, etc. It also allows for a large open space for informal ball games or events. Some of the
main topics covered at the meeting included:
I. Main Park Building
1. One main park building should be included that has enough space to accommodate a kitchen,
restrooms, Lions storage and has covered space for summer picnic use and winter skating.
2. Further exploration into size requirements will be made along with researching manufactured
buildings that could be modified for these requirements.
3. The building location works well with future development to the west - building could serve
both users.
11. Neighborhood Recreation Area
1. The neighborhood active recreation area should also include hardcourt space for 1/2 court
basketball. This could be placed adjacent to the skate park area as these two activities usually
relate to older kids.
2. The skate park should be located in a highly -visible area of the park.
3. A backstop should be included within the open lawn space. However, a defined ball field
should not be included.
701 Xenia Avenue South, Suite 300
Minneapolis, MNS5416
