HERITAGE PONDS ASSOCIATION
c/o Genesis Property Management
8416 Xerxes Avenue North
Brooklyn Park, MN 55444
November 18, 2013
Hugo City Hall
ATTN: Shayla Syverson
14669 Fitzgerald Avenue North
Hugo, MN 55038
The Board of Directors of Heritage Ponds Association, on behalf of its members, is requesting
that the City install a pathway that runs parallel with Elmcrest Avenue for the purpose of
providing an area so that pedestrians and bicycles are kept safe from vehicular traffic.
The neighborhood continues to grow due to the continued building of homes in the area.
This increased high traffic area is now not safe for residents wanting to walk or bicycle in and
around the area. With the large number of homes in the area, many residents walk and ride
bicycles along the road. As it is currently, there is no safe area to walk or ride and residents are
putting their safety at risk. This area should be redesigned to be safe for pedestrians while
promoting a "green" environment that encourages residents to walk and ride.
This request encourages residents to get out and be active knowing that they have a safe area to
be in; it is environmentally positive in promoting a fossil free mode of transportation, and helps
promote Hugo as a city that is environmentally conscientious and that puts the safety and welfare
of their residents at the forefront of any new development within the city limits.
As part of the city's 2010 EDA plan — trail and sidewalk improvements should be included in all
of Hugo, not only the downtown corridor. Trails and pathways added that are designed to be
safe for pedestrians and bicyclists would create linkages to existing sidewalks and trails and
promotes connectivity and enhancements to pedestrian access and walkability throughout the
city.
Respectfully,
Heritage Ponds Association Board of Directors
Steve Anderson; Russ Semo; Fred Hartman; Evelyn Pederson; Jamie McGregor
