3. Good Neighbors Days <br />Parks Planner, Shayla Denaway shared with the Commission that the 401h annual Good Neighbor Days will be <br />held at Lions Park June 9through June 12, 2016. Press Publications has asked the City of Hugo to sponsor the <br />Golden Spike Contest which is held the week of Good Neighbors Days. Prompted by clues supplied by Press <br />Publications, the contest invites the public to look for a hidden golden spike in Hugo parks. A sponsorship of <br />$250.00 has been requested by Press Publications. Denaway also informed the Commission that the City of <br />Hugo has been invited to host a booth in Heritage Square as part of Good Neighbor Days. The booth could be <br />available to promote the recreation programs and the reconstruction of Lions Park. <br />Rauschendorfer made a motion, Pontrelli seconded to approve a $250.00 sponsorship to Press Publications <br />for the Golden Spike Contest. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />4. Summer Recreation Program Update <br />Parks Planner, Shayla Denaway provided the Commission with an update on the summer recreation <br />programs. A strong partnership with the Washington County Library System has helped to make more events <br />available for Hugo residents. Story Stroll will be held at Lions Park during Good Neighbor Days; there will also <br />be three separate Story Strolls offered at Heritage Ponds Park and one offered at Hanifl Fields Park. Denaway <br />shared that Kidz N Biz had a great turn out with 400 in attendance. The Matter of Balance programs were <br />both cancelled due to lack of interest. <br />5. Missing Link Exercise <br />A 2016 goal of the Parks Commission includes reviewing and updating the Parks, Trails, and Open Space Plan <br />and identifying missing trail links. At previous meetings the Commission has reviewed the Trails Plan and also <br />reviewed maps of existing, planned, and proposed trails and highlighted the missing connections between <br />them. At this meeting Parks Planner, Shayla Denaway updated the Commission on recent trail projects and <br />discussed trail development priorities. Two miles of trails were added in 2015 and two more miles will be <br />added in 2016. Recent trail projects include: Keystone Place trail connection, Park Dental trail connection, <br />147th Street roadway reconstruction project, Clearwater Cove sidewalk and trails, Fable Hill 4th Addition trails, <br />Prairie Village sidewalks, and Waters Edge sidewalks. Denaway also spoke about the Hardwood Creek <br />Regional Trail and the Regional Trail System. The Hardwood Creek Trail is set to undergo improvements <br />including kiosks, way finding signs, and updated and cohesive signage. <br />6.
