Terry, Thanks for your email and your comments about our city council limiting the issuance of liquor licenses. I understand there is an application pending from someone who desires to operate a liquor store at the site of the former Rick's Liquor. That application requires a public hearing and I expect our council to include your comments in the discussions to consider the applicant's request. The reason Ricks liquor closed is because Rick was sick of not making any money because we had to split business 3 ways. When you try and compete with corporate money out at On the Rocks and I am the small guy that cannot afford to buy the big deals so this becomes an unfair advantage for us at Sagers Liquor which I know is part of how things work and now you guys are going to allow another one back in town to cause more headaches for everyone again! Maybe the focus should be on keeping the two stores open and get rid of all the rest of the off sale liquor licenses so our little town is not saturated with liquor stores, two is competition and 3 is saturation in our small community. If it is about the $100.00 for the license, charge me $200.00 and call it good. The market in Hugo cannot support 3 liquor stores!!! If it was such a lucrative business why do I get up at 4:30am and go work a full time job and go work the store at night. Please consider not passing the liquor license for the new store and getting rid of all the rest of the off sale licenses in Hugo. Our town does not need more than two off sale licenses and I would tell you this even if I did not own a store in town. I told this to Michele when Larry owned Hugo Liquor and I was not even in town as a business owner.
