Michele Lindau
From:
Sent:
To:
Cc:
Subject:
shipping <shipping@tecweigh.com>
Monday, March 27, 2017 7:14 AM
Michele Lindau
Chuck Haas; Bryan Bear; Phil Klein
FW: ANOTHER LIQUOR STORE
Michele, I received your letter about the public hearing on Monday April 17' for the off sale license for MGM, I would
really like these emails put in as part of the meeting since I have to work my store that night. I mentioned this in one of
the emails to Chuck because he said that he would expect the council to discuss my comments and reasons for not
allowing another liquor store in town and why the City needs to get rid of all the rest of the off sale licenses except for
the two that are current right now. Let me know if this something that you can do. Talk to you later. Have a great day!!!
Thank You,
Terry Sager
From: shipping
Sent: Tuesday, March 21, 2017 10:04 AM
To: 'charles haas'
Cc: Bryan Bear; philklein7@msn.com
Subject: RE: ANOTHER LIQUOR STORE
Chuck, thank you for responding I really appreciate it. The other things I forgot to say in my email is what makes it more
difficult is that majority of our community leaves Hugo to go to work so they pass by plenty of liquor stores every day
before and after work so we also compete with that and not just the stores in our town and when you are talking a
community with a population of 14000 people and 1 out of 5 households drink so that only leaves approximately 2800
households in our community to support our business which is not very many, that is why it is as tough as it is with the
cut throat margins starting with the 3% for credit card fees and subtract that from the margins I am showing you with
beer at 18 — 20%, liquor at 25 — 30% and wine at 40 — 45% and believe me it is not a wine community. I am also speaking
this way because I have lived in the community for 17 years and I feel that Rick or myself should of have had the
opportunity to open next to Festival before some corporate money was allowed to open and made life miserable for
Rick's liquor and Sagers liquor when the town was doing just fine with the two small businesses that worked very hard
when Hugo was just a dot between White Bear Lake and Forest Lake. Please really consider what I have shared with you
and do not allow this store to open and just stick with what we have and get rid of all the other off sale licenses. Chuck,
thanks again for responding and hearing me out. I would really hope that you share this at that public hearing because i
believe this is information people need to hear so they understand how tough of industry this is. I would love to come
and share it but like I told you I have to work my store just to compete with the corporate money at On the Rocks.
Thank You,
Terry Sager
SAGERS LIQUOR
From: charles hags[mailto:charles.haas27Cgmaii.com]
Sent: Tuesday, March 21, 2017 8:58 AM
To: shipping
Cc: Bryan Bear;
Subject: Re: ANOTHER LIQUOR STORE
