Potential businesses need to be aware of what Hugo has to offer as a community, <br /> in terms of amenities and opportunity. <br /> Marketing Tools <br /> There are a variety of tools available to an EDA that can be utilized to fulfill the <br /> goal of marketing the City. These tools range from; Economic Development Newsletters, <br /> Marketing Videos, Business Retention Visits, as well as a number of simple steps, that <br /> can be used to spread information about business opportunities in a City. The tools that <br /> will be examined represent a portion of what is available to Cities and present a variety of <br /> costs. <br /> Business Retention Visits <br /> The City of Oakdale has found that one of the easiest tools for marketing the City <br /> is Business Retention Visits. This tool is unique in the fact that its target audience is not <br /> businesses outside of the community seeking to locate in Oakdale, but businesses already <br /> located within the City. A business retention visit is a fairly simple idea, it is simply an <br /> effort by City Staff and Elected Officials to get out into the community and speak with <br /> business owners. <br /> The notion behind this tool is the fact that future business growth in a city has a <br /> higher likelihood of coming from a business that is already located in the city then from <br /> an outside business coming in. As a result, the City of Oakdale decided they needed to <br /> get staff and elected officials out in the Oakdale Business Community to start speaking <br /> with the businesses already located there and to start forming relationships with these <br />
