Inflation adjusted, 2006 was the fifth highest <br /> value commercial construction year of the past 25 years. Housing permits followed the downward trend of the nation <br /> and metro area in 2006 with 185 residential building permits issued. The value of these residential permits is <br /> $49,931,363. <br /> On March 31, 2007 the EDA held a strategic planning session where the members identified 6 key priorities for the next <br /> 2 years. They are: <br /> 1. Continued attraction of new industries. <br /> 2. Become choice business location. <br /> 3. Ensure availability of retail opportunities. <br /> 4. Support and retain existing businesses. <br /> 5. Redevelop older commercial districts. <br /> 6. Influence issues critical to business site decisions. <br /> This is in addition to the goals the City Council identified for 2007 related to economic development. They are: <br /> Fiscal Stability We will operate in a fiscally responsible manner while emphasizing growth and diversity of the tax base <br /> and high value to the taxpayer and other community stakeholders. <br /> Commercial and Industrial Development We will place emphasis on quality retail, restaurant, and industrial <br /> development. Development enhancements within all commercial districts will include the use of development controls, <br /> architectural standards and high quality site features. Particular emphasis will be placed on the Gateway North <br /> Redevelopment District,Jamaica/Cottage View development,the Industrial Park inducing creation of corporate cam- <br /> pus sites, and planning for high quality master planned development in the East Ravine.We will also propose a <br /> brownfield reclamation strategy. <br /> Housing Development We will ensure that implementation of the master plan for the East Ravine District includes only <br /> high quality, high design and amenity development stressing the natural environment complemented by the built <br /> environment. Emphasis will be placed on diversity of housing styles targeting the second and third tier move-up buyer. <br /> All future housing developments must reflect the community vision established through the East Ravine planning <br /> process. Encourage the maintenance of current housing stock through increased code enforcement efforts. <br /> Facilitation and attraction of quality development within all sectors continues to receive a high level of priority by both <br /> the EDA and City Council. <br /> Following is a brief description of projects and project areas currently under development within the community. <br />
