USGS pushes for advanced lake study-Press Publications/Kanabec.co... http://www.presspubs.com/white_bear/news/article_b8369734-7dfd-...
• Determine White Bear Lake water outflow location and rates. Geological surveys and meter
placement and readings would determine how fast water is leaving through the bottom of White
Bear Lake.
• Develop lake level/water pumping management scenarios. Models simulating municipal water
extraction would be set up to determine new pumping procedures designed to maintain lake levels
and satisfy demand for household water use.
If the project wins grant money, study would begin in July 2013.
The Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund is controlled by the Minnesota
State Legislature and funded with proceeds from the Minnesota State Lottery. In 2009, the
Minnesota Legislature approved $23.7 million for 28 projects based on recommendations from the
Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources.
Mark Nicklawske can be reached at news@presspubs.com or 651-407-123 1 .
