Thieling <br />Apo <br />Children climbing aboard the <br />"school bus" to Hopkins School, <br />Winter 1944• <br />Photo donated by Don Marier <br />01, P, roWN HALL <br />A Quick History of the <br />Hopkins Schoolhouse <br />Built in 1927-28, the Hopkins <br />Schoolhouse held its first day <br />of class in the Fall of 1928. <br />Classes at Hopkins were held <br />in one room, and teachers <br />taught "ungraded elementary <br />education" (Grades 1-6) until <br />the school closed in 1962. <br />In 1965 the building was sold <br />to Oneka Township, and was <br />used as a town hall in the late <br />Eos and los. <br />It was also used as a place for <br />the Boy Scouts and lastly a <br />Youth Center in the mid - <br />2000s. <br />Schoolhouses over the U.S. have been abandoned <br />for various reasons including changing <br />demographics and/or cost of maintaining <br />structures.
