APPENDIX D
DESIGN 3C - SCHOOL BUILDINGS FOR MINNESOTA - 1924
Two methods of heating are recognized as satisfactory, namely, warm air furnaces
or ventilating room heaters. When a warm air furnace is installed, it shou,Id have a
grate area and heating surface as shown on the Plans. It should be installed so as to
provide for the introduction of outdoor air during school hours and should also permit
of recirculation of air during the time school is not in session. In this Plan, this is aa-
complished by providing a fresh air room with a hinged window which, when opened,
ooyooc ,eoom
w=01x.00-0-
W F I .Cp rrs l
"O'ec,V
School Room, 28 ft. by 23 ft.
Library Alcove, 13 ft. by 7 ft. 2 in.
Vestibule, 5 it. by 5 ft. 2 in.
Boys' Coat Room, 8 ft. 10 in. by 5 ft.
2 in.
Boys' Toilet Room, 5 ft. 2 in. by 3 ft.
Girls' Coat Room, s ft. 10 in. by 5 ft.
2 im
Girls' Toilet Room, 7 ft. by 3 ft.
Ji 5lGI'Y 15- C
S
Basement.
Community and Lunch Room, 23 ft. by
22 ft. 6 in.
Kitchen, 14 ft. by 5 ft.
Pantry, 4 ft, by 5 ft.
Furnace and Fuel Room, 18 ft. by 7 ft -
Fresh Air Room, 9 ft. by 6 ft. 8 in.
Storage, 16 ft, by 4 ft. 10 in.
will admit outdoor air to the furnace. When this window is closed, the door to the
fresh air room should be kept open as well as the door to the schoolroom, so as to allow
for recirculation. If both window and door are Dept closed at the same time, the fur-
nace will not receive a sufficient supply of air and in consequence the schoolroom will be
hot at the ceiling and cold at the floor. Be sides the firepot will become overheated and
is likely to crack.
It
Designs 3C -D from the 1924 Edition of School Buildings for Minnesota, a collection of pre -approved one and two
room school designs published by the State of Minnesota Department of Education. 11"
