3.0 MNRAM INPUT
Initial site data is entered into the General Information section of MNRAM 3.4. The site is located in the
Mississippi River -Twin Cities Watershed Basin, #20, in Wetland Bank Service
Area 7. The subject property drains into three (3) discharge locations; southwest into Clearwater Creek West,
east and south into Clearwater Creek North, and north into Hardwood Creek (See attached figure: P8 Water
Quality Modeling Discharge Locations from The Capital Improvement Plan For Stormwater Projects Within the
City of Hugo (WSB, 2011)) The UTM coordinate location, elevation, and size, of each wetland is entered. The
wetland basins are described below.
Wetland areas B, BB, D-E, F and I:
• Circular 39: Type 2
• Cowardin: PEM1A
• Eggers and Reed: Fresh (Wet) Meadow
Wetland areas B, E, F and I are low lying areas within crop land and are characterized by monotypic stands of
reed canary grass (Phalarus arunducia). Wetland BB, a partially drained basin which discharges into a ditch, had
been plowed the previous fall prior to the 2017 site visit. The northward draining swale from wetland E to D
was covered with reed canary at the time of the site visit, but has historically been farmed. The E-D swale,
which was not included as wetland in the 2006 delineation, served as a soil conservation feature at the time of
the 2017 site visit. Soils are primarily clay loam rather that sandy loam as indicated by NRCS mapping.
• Wetland areas B and BB discharge into Clearwater Creek West.
• Wetland areas D-E, F and I discharge into Hardwood Creek
Wetland L:
• Circular 39: Type 2/3
• Cowardin: PEM1C
• Eggers and Reed: Shallow Marsh
Wetland L is an easterly flowing Type 2/3 wetland complex which contains a diverse plant community which
includes, but is not limited to, slough sedge (Carex atherodes), hummock sedge (Carex stricta), giant bur -reed
(Sparganium eurycarpum), softstem bulrush (Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani) and broad leaf cattail (Typha
latifolia). Much of the north boundary is fairly abrupt with cattail and deep muck in the wetland adjacent to a
thick growth of prickly ash (Zanthoxylum americanum) shrubbery in the upland. The remaining upland/wetland
boundary is gradual. Wetland L is connected with wetlands K, M, N and R, and provides a water quality filter
mechanism for the agricultural runoff from the western part of the site.
• Wetland L discharges into Clearwater Creek North.
Wetland P:
• Circular 39: Type 7
• Cowardin: PFO1B
• Eggers and Reed: Hardwood Swamp
Green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) boxelder (Acer negundo) and American elm (Ulmus americana) are dominant
with an understory of reed canary and a sparsely vegetated concave surface.
• Wetland P discharges into Clearwater Creek North.
