Hugo City Council Meeting Minutes for April 16, 2018 <br />Page 5 of 6 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Hass made motion, Miron seconded, to approve RESOLUTION 2018 -6 APPROVING PLANS <br />AND SPECIFICATIONS AND ORDERING ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS FOR THE <br />ONEKA LAKE BOULEVARD AND HARROW AVENUE STREET IMPROVEMENT <br />PROJECT. <br /> <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Discussion on Local Assessor <br /> <br />At its February 5, 2018 meeting, staff discussed the resignation of Local Assessor Dan Raboin <br />effective following the Board of Appeals meeting on April 12, 2018, and the importance of <br />having a local assessor instead of contracting with the County. City Administrator Bryan Bear <br />and Mayor Tom Weidt had met with Chase Peloquin, who was qualified to meet the City’s <br />assessor needs. Council had directed staff to negotiate a contract with Chase; however, Chase has <br />since declined the opportunity. City Administrator Bryan Bear explained to Council that the City, <br />along with the cities of Scandia and Lake Elmo, advertised for requests for proposals for local <br />assessors and received a single response from John Keefe, currently the county assessor for <br />Chisago County. Bear presented options to council: hire Keefe, contract with the County, or hire <br />an assessor as a city employee. Council talked about the importance of keeping a local assessor. <br /> <br />Haas made motion, Klein seconded, to directed staff to prepare a contract for Council approval <br />for Mr. Keefe as the new local assessor. <br /> <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Update on the Yellow Ribbon Network <br /> <br />Council Members Chuck Haas and Phil Klein updated the Council on the activities of the Yellow <br />Ribbon Network. The YRN received a thank you note from a Gold Star Widow who the YRN <br />helped with car repairs. Care packages containing Girl Scout cookies were being sent to an army <br />reserve unit, and Haas thanked those who donated. The YRN was partnering with other <br />organizations for mailing. Another packing event was being scheduled for the 347 Human <br />Resources Company of the MN National Guard, and they were taking donations to fulfill the <br />women’s wish lists. Burger night in April will be Attorney Dan Gallatin. <br /> <br />Metro Cities Annual Meeting on Thursday, April 19, 2018 <br /> <br />City Administrator Bryan Bear reminded Council of the Metro Cities Annual Meeting to be held <br />on Thursday, April 19, 2108, at the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory beginning at 5:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Spring Cleanup Day on Saturday, April 21, 2018 <br /> <br />City Administrator Bryan Bear reminded Council that the City of Hugo will hold its annual <br />Spring Cleanup event on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the Hugo Public Works Department from 8 <br />a.m. to noon. <br /> <br /> <br />
