Background <br />Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Commission <br />Meeting of February 21, 2018 <br />Hugo City Hall, 7:00 pm <br />Approve Minutes from January 17, 2018 Meeting <br />Staff recommends approval of the minutes of the Parks Commission meeting of January 17, 2018. <br />PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED MINUTES. <br />Neighborhood Park Update Plan <br />At the meetings of September 17, 2017 and October 18, 2017, the Parks Commission reviewed Hugo's <br />eighteen existing parks. Community Development Intern, Sarah Rumppe presented sketches showing <br />proposed changes and suggestions for park improvements. The Parks Commission approved $50,000 for <br />park upgrades in their Capital Improvement Plan. Building on the options presented by Rumppe, staff has <br />prepared a plan for upgrades at Frog Hollow Park, Heritage Ponds Park, Val Jean Park, and Arbre Park. <br />PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED PARK AERIALS. <br />Active Living Grant <br />Clearwater Creek Preserve Master Planning <br />At the meeting of November 15, 2017 the Parks Commission heard proposal from Rumppe for improvements <br />to be made at Clearwater Creek Preserve. The Commission discussed: <br />• Clearing brush to create windows to view the picturesque creek <br />• Creating creek access with bordering edges established with large sitting rocks <br />• Working with developers to connect trails and improving trail vision <br />• Changing trail location to eliminate wetland issues <br />• Defining areas at the north end of the site by opening the canopy <br />• Providing seating along the paths, specifically near the creek <br />• Adding educational signage along the trail <br />The City of Hugo applied for an Active Living Grant in the amount of $15,000 for master planning Clearwater <br />Creek Preserve. An update on the grant status and park planning will be given. <br />THE GRANT ACTION PLAN IS ATTACHED AS WELL AS BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE PARK. <br />Recreation Program Update <br />An update will be given on spring and summer recreation programs. <br />PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED PROGRAM FLYERS. <br />Page 2 of 2 <br />Parks Commission Agenda <br />February 21, 2018 <br />
