Xcel Energy Expands Hugo Training Facility In the fall of 2017, Xcel Energy gained approval for an expansion to its existing training facility. Located within Hugo's Bald Eagle Industrial Park, this new expansion includes the instalment of an emergency response site, a station training building, and a site specified for gas and electrical training. Currently, the facility is able to train 50 new employees per week. Schwieters Expansion Approved In October of 2017, Schwieters Properties, LLP. submitted new concept plans for an indus- trial development located just west of Fenway Avenue and south of 140th Street. The sub- mitted plan included a manufacturing building, a warehouse building, as well as two office buildings. Together, the structures will make up 183,000 square feet within the proposed 30 acre plat. Schwieters Properties later gained approval of the 145,000 square foot warehouse facility. Con- struction will be underway soon. Up- on completion, Schwieters Proper- ties intends to use the development to manufacture floor panels and roof trusses as an expansion of their ex- isting business in Hugo. Wash. Co. Economic Development: Strategic Plan Economic Development staff members located through- out Washington County worked diligently to further pri- oritize possible economic development plans and efforts within the Washington County. The County recently drafted and completed an economic development plan that provides action steps and deliverables for how the County will be active in relation to economic develop- ment. Short term goals include providing resources to help push both new and previously established business- es towards greater success. This plan also includes as- pects such as infrastructure marketing, partnerships, fi- nancial and community assistance, as well as workforce development. 3
