I am also invited to neighborhood meetings, church groups, or other
organizations where I can listen and learn about
issues people are facing. Many citizens share
their ideas, and are excited to learn about
how they can participate in the City’s decision
making process. As Mayor, I always enjoy talking
about important issues within informal settings,
as these conversations give me a good idea of
what residents expect and what direction they
want to see the City go. I often encourage resi-
dents to get further involved by attending a
public hearing, or by volunteering to serve on one
of our City Commissions. In local government,
the opinion of a single individual can make a
big difference to a Commission or to the City
Council who is preparing to make a decision on
an important issue. There are a variety of ways
to get involved in the decision making process.
The City holds many meetings, workshops, and
open houses that are intended to gather
feedback from residents. City Council and
Commission meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome to
participate. Agendas are available on the City’s website, and they can also be e-mailed
directly to you. Look for City notices in the mail when significant proposals arise near your
property, such as park improvements, a new development application, or road construction.
We want to keep citizens informed and aware of community changes. I encourage anyone
with questions, concerns, or ideas, to begin by contacting City Hall. Our City staff will
be able to resolve most issues, and can also help residents make contact with their
City Council representative, or myself. We are all more than happy to chat with you! Stay
informed by reading the newsletter, checking out the website and Facebook, or by reading
the local newspaper. We want to hear from you, so let us know what you think. After all,
this is your City!

Tom Weidt, Mayor
How do you
involve residents
in the decision
making process
in our City?
If you have a question you would like to ask the Mayor,
send it to info@ci.hugo.mn.us
Your question could be featured in the next newsletter!
TUNE INTO
Government Channel 16
for community updates and
to watch City meetings
“Butterfly on Red Geranium” submitted by Sara
