My name is Ed Tschida and I am looking to take my land from the current program I am
enrolled in and enroll it in the Minnesota Land Trust Metro Habitat Protection Program.
I have owned this land for the last 36 years and have many great memories. When I
purchased this land, it was a corn field with very little value to wildlife and water quality
for most of the year. Being that this property includes many acres of wetland, my goal
was to turn the property into a haven for wildlife and an area that improves water quality
for miles around.
Over the next 15 years I planted 4-5000 trees on the parts of the property that are not
wetland. It is now mostly a forest of white pines, norways, white spruce, blue spruce
oaks, birch and aspen. That coupled with numerous wetlands, makes this a desirable
location for many species of wildlife.
There are abundant numbers of deer, swans, geese, ducks, songbirds, pheasants, coyotes
and other wildlife.
I am now 77 years old and my time with this property is limited. I will have to sell this
incredible piece soon. My goal is for this property to remain the pristine property that it
is and for my efforts to reach far into the future.
When the state and Washington county came to me with the Minnesota Land Trust Metro
Habitat Protection Program, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do exactly
what I have wanted to do with this property all along. I am "all in" on this request from
the state and Washington county. I hope all parties involved are "all in" as well.
In this process, I have taken 5 different groups or individuals from the state and/or
Washington county through my property. They have all exclaimed that this property is
exactly the type of property they want enrolled in the program.
Sincerely,
Ed Tschida
