A 5,665 SF Cattle House Restaurant is proposed as phase 1 of the city owned property on
Hwy 61 and Egg Lake. The restaurant will be a family style steakhouse and bar with a
brand that reflects a local and organic menu for gathering families and events. The
building is designed to accommodate a future 200 capacity event center that would share
the kitchen facility. The developer/ owner Tony Harmening has extensive catering
experience that will be beneficial in orchestrating community gatherings.
SITE PLAN FEATURES
The entire site is master planned to accommodate the restaurant and parking in phase 1
with room for a future event center. Future phases have been planned to provide
buildings along the highway for an urban character. The plan takes advantage of views to
the lake as well as maintaining views of the lake from Hwy 61.The street is lined with
extensive landscaping and 16' tall decorative light pole fixtures to reinforce the
pedestrian experience. The entire site has pedestrian connections throughout with trails
along the lake and connections to other structures. A large outdoor wood deck is over
looking the lake and the building is situated to take advantage of the views. Along the
lake is a variety of walking surfaces including wood plank and concrete and features
multiple opportunities for interacting with the lake with benches, fire pit and a seasonal
dock. The restaurant is surrounded by recreational activities such as horseshoes, corn
hole toss in the summer and broomball, snowmobiling and fir pit in the winter. On off-
peak hours a farmers market with local vendors could occur in the parking lots that could
reinforce the organic and local branding of the restaurant. These activities would be a
great way to gather the community.
ARCHITECTURE
The restaurant interior will have an industrial barn -like feel with heavy timber beams and
large open ceilings. Fire places are located in the entry as well as the lounge area. The
exterior architecture is designed with a large sloped roof that opens up to the lake.
Horizontal cornices, awnings and window frames are reflective of prairie -style. Large
overhead glass doors open up to the deck and window patterns with upper transoms
reinforce the prairie -style. The large sloped roof and simple box -shaped massing takes its
cues from the grain silos across the highway as well as prairie style forms. The tall stone
mass has a great presence as you enter the site and provides a grand backdrop for the
sign. This tall mass also screens the rooftop units by parapet The barnwood facades
feature living walls of vines growing on trellises that promote the organic nature of the
business. High quality materials such as stone, timbers, glass and barnwood siding
combine for a rustic/ industrial vibe. The wall mounted decorative light fixtures feature
prairie style horizontal banding and will wash the walls at night to make a warm
appearance from the highway and the lake. The architecture of the future buildings
would incorporate the same palate of materials established with the restaurant and feature
simple massing and windows that are reflective of prairie style.
