292DesignGroup
minneapolis
September 7, 2020
Rachel Juba
Planner - City of Hugo
14669 Fitzgerald Ave N.
Hugo, MN 55038
Re: VLH Eagles Landing Development
Variance Application for the Use of Architectural Metal Panels for
Exterior Cladding
Dear Ms. Juba,
We are proposing to use Architectural Metal Panels (AMP) for the exterior
cladding of the proposed buildings in the Eagles Landing Development. These
will provide Eagles Landing a high -quality long-lasting exterior that will create a
dynamic look to the project and create a new fitting addition to the
neighborhood.
The Eagles Landing project is proposing an innovative approach to building
Office/Warehouse type projects. The buildings will be constructed primarily of
engineered wood construction versus the usual concrete. Engineered wood
structures are inherently more environmentally responsive than other buildings
that consist primarily of concrete construction. Wood is a natural storage of
CO2, is a renewable product and consumes drastically less energy to produce
the structural components. The manufacturing of concrete cement is an
extremely high emitter of CO2 and takes extensive energy to produce and is one
of the largest single sources of CO2 in construction. In addition to creating the
base concrete material in pre -cast wall panels or concrete block, trucking and
erection is energy intensive as well.
Architectural metal wall panels to clad the building are another innovative
product that has come into wide use. These are extremely high quality, long
lasting products that are used for a wide variety of buildings, including sports
facilities, housing projects, office buildings and cultural buildings. They are
definitely not the cheap corrugated metal siding put on pole barns or pre-
engineered (Butler) buildings many are familiar with.
612.767.3773 3533 E LAKE STREET MPLS, MN 55406,
