Geotechnical Report
2021 Street Improvements
Hugo, Minnesota
WSB Project No. 015887-000 Page 4
B-6 3 ½ 8 Fill (Sand), Sand
B-7 3 8 Fill (Sand), Sand
B-8 2 8 Fill (Sand), Sand
B-9 4 10 Sand
n/a – indicates that bituminous or aggregate base materials were not encountered.
3.3 Strength Characteristics
The penetration resistance N-values of the materials encountered were recorded during drilling and are
indicated as blows per foot (BPF). Those values provide an indication of soil strength characteristics and
are located on the boring log sheets. Also, visual-manual classification techniques and apparent moisture
contents were also utilized to make an engineering judgment of the consistency of the materials.
Table 2 presents a summary of the penetration resistances in the soils for the borings complet ed and
remarks regarding the material strengths of the soils.
Table 2: Penetration Resistances
Soil Type Classification Penetration
Resistances Remarks
Fill Mostly SP 1 to 16 BPF Variable compaction
Glacial Outwash SP, ML WH to 11 BPF Very loose to medium dense
WH indicates that the weight of the hammer was able to drive the sampler 2 feet into the soils
and that no penetration blows were required.

The preceding is a generalized description of soil conditions at this site. Variations from the generalized
profile exist and should be assessed from the boring logs, the normal geologic character of the deposits,
and the soils uncovered during site excavation.
3.4 Groundwater Conditions
WSB took groundwater level readings in the exploratory borings, reviewed the data obtained, and
discussed its interpretation of the data in the text of the report. Note that groundwater levels may
fluctuate due to seasonal variations (e.g. precipitation, snowmelt and rainfall) and/or other factors not
evident at the time of measurement. Table 3 below is a summary of the estimated water levels at our
borings.
Table 3: Groundwater Measurements
Boring No. Ground Surface
Elevation
Estimated Depth to
Groundwater
Estimated Groundwater
Elevation
PB-1 910 9 901
PB-2 930 12 918
PB-3 931 9 922
PB-4 933 10 923
PB-5 932 8 924
PB-6 932 9 923
PB-7 932 8 924
PB-8 932 7 925
PB-9 932 8 924
n/a – indicates ground water was not encountered. Elevations are rounded to the highest ½ foot.
