<br />Job Description <br />Position Title: Chief Engineer <br />Department: Fire Department <br />Reports to: Deputy Chief <br />Pay Grade: Part Time/Paid on-Call <br />Salary: Per City Salary Resolution <br /> <br /> <br />Purpose <br />Perform duties essential to the Fire Department <br /> <br />Organizational Relationships <br />Communicate with: Fire Department Officers, Firefighters and other City staff <br />Supervises: Engineers <br />Receives work assignments from: Fire Chief and or other Fire Department Officers <br /> <br />Essential Duties / Responsibilities <br />The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or <br />all inclusive; other duties may be required or assigned. <br /> <br />Essential Functions <br /> All essential functions of a Firefighter’s position. <br /> Supervise and provide direction to Engineers. <br /> Drive all apparatus safely to all calls. <br /> Be knowledgeable in all aspects of pumping, drafting and apparatus operations. <br /> Verify all vehicles and equipment are in good working order and safe. <br /> Keep records of maintenance, inspections and repairs. <br /> Act as member of all new truck purchase committees. <br /> Give feedback on all equipment purchases. <br /> Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies pertinent to fire and rescue apparatus and <br />equipment. <br /> Work within the given equipment budget. <br /> Train Engineers on all aspects of apparatus operation. <br /> Instruct other firefighters in the proper use of all apparatus. <br /> Develop and schedule all work tasks for monthly apparatus checks. <br /> Operate fire pumps monthly. <br /> Schedule annual DOT inspections for all apparatus. <br /> Recommend changes that would benefit the operation of the station and emergency <br />response. <br /> Attend required meetings that are over and above those required of a firefighter. <br /> <br />Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities <br /> All knowledge, skills, and abilities listed under positions that report directly to this <br />position. <br /> Ability to maintain, inspect and establish quality records for all vehicles and equipment <br />on vehicles. <br /> <br />Education and /or Certifications Required <br /> All education and/or certifications listed under positions that report directly to this <br />position. <br /> Obtain State Certification for Fire Apparatus Operator prior to appointment. <br /> Complete any educational opportunities approved by the Fire Chief. <br /> <br />Annual Requirements <br />• Meet all annual requirements of the Firefighter’s position.
