<br />Job Description <br />Position Title: Deputy Chief <br />Department: Fire Department <br />Reports to: Fire Chief <br />Pay Grade: Part Time/Paid on-Call <br />Salary: Per City Salary Resolution <br /> <br /> <br />Purpose <br />Perform duties essential to the Fire Department <br /> <br />Organizational Relationships <br />Communicate with: Fire Department Officers, Firefighters and other city staff <br />Supervises: Directs the work of the Captains, Chief Engineer, and other subordinate staff <br />Receives work assignments from: Fire Chief <br /> <br />Essential Duties / Responsibilities <br />The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or <br />all inclusive; other duties may be required or assigned <br /> <br />Essential Functions <br />• All essential functions of a Firefighters position. <br />• Supervise and provide direction to Captains and Chief Engineer. <br />• Assists the Fire Chief in the development, planning and implementation of the goals and <br />objectives of the department. <br /> Directs and oversees multi-company response to an emergency event. <br /> Supervises and provides day to day oversight for Safety Captain and Chief Engineer. <br />• Serves as the incident commander at emergency scenes as needed. <br />• Work within the given budget. <br />• May assume full control of the Fire Department in the absence of the Fire Chief. <br /> Establishes the communication plan for the department. <br /> Maintains all communications equipment for the department. <br /> Oversees technology for the department. <br />• Recommends changes in policies and procedures. <br />• Maintains inventory control of assigned communication devices, tools and equipment. <br />• Maintains updated CIP for the fire trucks and equipment. <br /> <br />Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities <br /> All knowledge, skills, and abilities listed under positions that report directly to this <br />position. <br />• Ability to assist the Fire Chief in planning, directing, managing/overseeing the activities <br />and operations of the Fire Department. <br />• Ability to manage and supervise the activities of one or more assigned functions, which <br />may include communications, fire apparatus and equipment. <br />• Ability to direct the work of the Safety Captain, Chief Engineer, and other subordinate <br />staff. <br />• Ability to participate in the development of departmental goals and objectives. <br />• Assists in the formulation of policies and procedures. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
