<br />Job Description <br /> <br />Position Title: Fire Marshal <br />Department: Fire Department <br />Reports to: Fire Chief <br />Pay Grade: Part Time/Paid on-Call <br />Salary: Per City Salary Resolution <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Purpose <br />Perform duties essential to the Fire Department related to fire inspection and prevention. <br /> <br />Organizational Relationships <br />Communicate with: Fire Department Officers, Firefighters and other city staff. <br />Supervises: None <br />Receives work assignments from: Fire Chief. <br /> <br />Essential Duties / Responsibilities <br />The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or <br />all inclusive; other duties may be required or assigned. <br /> <br />Essential Functions <br /> All Essential Functions of a Firefighter position. <br /> Participate in the inspection of sprinkling systems and elements of fire prevention or <br />protection systems to ensure fire code requirements are met. <br /> Encourage and conduct voluntary fire prevention inspections of non-residential buildings <br />within the City. <br /> Prepare and maintain correspondence, records and reports relating to fire prevention <br />inspections. <br /> Coordinates and oversees the delivery of and participates in public fire prevention <br />education programs. <br /> Work to ensure safe handling of hazardous materials in the City of Hugo. <br /> Issue Burning Permits. <br /> Communicate with Building Department and participate in reviews of commercial <br />construction plans for fire code compliance, and resolves compliance problems with <br />contractors and architects within scope of knowledge and authority having jurisdiction. <br /> Participate in site plan review. <br /> Collaborate with the Building Official in assigning addresses for new developments. <br /> Respond to complaints from citizens as it pertains to fire safety, and works to resolve <br />compliance problems with owners within scope of knowledge and authority. <br /> Research code issues and provide the general public with fire prevention and safety <br />information. <br /> Maintain up-to-date working knowledge of current fire code requirements, regulations, <br />and certifications through continuing education. <br /> Recommend changes in policies and procedures. <br /> Recommend changes that would benefit the operation of the station and emergency <br />response. <br /> Attend required meetings that are over and above those required of a firefighter. <br /> Attend training courses, read and study assigned materials related the position of Fire <br />Marshal. <br /> Participate in educating the public on fire safety. <br /> <br /> <br />
