<br /> <br /> <br />Job Description <br />Position Title: Firefighter <br />Department: Fire Department <br />Reports to: Lieutenant <br />Pay Grade: Part Time/Paid on-Call <br />Salary: Per City Salary Resolution <br /> <br /> <br />Purpose <br />Perform duties essential to the Fire Department. <br /> <br />Organizational Relationships <br />Communicate with: Fire Department Officers, Firefighters, and other city staff <br />Supervises: None <br />Receives work assignments from: Fire Chief and other Fire Department Officers <br /> <br />Essential Duties / Responsibilities <br />The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or <br />all inclusive; other duties may be required or assigned. <br /> <br />Essential Functions <br /> Respond to fire and other emergency calls. <br /> Drive and operate firefighting vehicles and equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. <br /> Select hose and nozzle depending on the type of fire and direct stream of water or <br />chemical onto fire. <br /> Position and climb ladders to gain access to upper levels of buildings or to assist <br />individuals from burning structures. <br /> Create openings in building for ventilation or entrance. <br /> Administer EMS to all injured persons. <br /> Communicate with supervisor. <br /> Act as a representative of the Fire Department at community events in a professional <br />and positive manner. <br /> Act as Incident Command in the absence of Chief Officers, Captains or Lieutenants. <br /> Maintain positive attitude in performance of all duties. <br /> Participate in training drills, meetings, demonstrations and public events within or around <br />the City of Hugo. <br /> Attend training courses, read and study assigned materials related to fire prevention, <br />suppression, rescue, training, public fire safety education and emergency medical <br />services. <br /> Perform assigned duties in maintaining apparatus, buildings, equipment, grounds and <br />hydrants. <br /> Participate in educating the public in fire safety and fire prevention. <br /> <br />Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities <br /> Ability to frequently talk, listen, sit, stand, crawl, kneel, balance, reach or maneuver <br />certain ways. <br /> Ability to frequently lift 10 pounds and occasionally lift and or move 100 pounds. <br /> Ability to handle extensive training in operations of apparatus, tools and equipment. <br /> Ability to work in extreme conditions including but not limited to heat, cold, heights, <br />confined spaces, and high stress environments. <br /> Ability to perform hazardous tasks under emergency conditions, which may require <br />strenuous exertion under such handicaps as smoke and cramped surroundings.
