MEETING MINUTES
CITY ❑F HUGO - LIONS PARK DATE: 1 0/29/202❑
• The design team will explore at least one idea where the main space could be sub -divided by
an operable partition. The key components that affect this are acoustic separation and ease of
use / operation.
• Related Exterior Space Need(s)
• The adjacent main, covered, outdoor space should be 20'x40' minimum and in addition
potentially have more space or wrap around characteristics that allow multiple break out
spaces or uses.
• From the related earlier meeting the outdoor performance space will be planned for the north
end of the building (not east).
• Current, adjacent outdoor space is approximately 100' x 100' size to provide an area that can
function as a beer garden for special events and be separated from a larger viewing area.
• Support Functions — Public / Functional
• A conference room / meeting room is desired. This space can function separately for smaller
meetings, but can also support the large space for bridal groups, act as a coat room, break out
space, etc.
• Secondary storage will be in a separate structure, so the building storage only needs to take
into account the tables / chairs and any support materials from the building itself.
• Kitchen / catering space will not provide for food prep. or cooking. The space is anticipated for
catered events, etc. to provide work space, counters, 3-comp. sink and hand sink. Outlets,
etc. to support refrigerator / freezer. Food trucks are expected for large public events.
• Support Spaces — Utility / Maintenance
• A separate janitorial closet with space for cleaning supplies, mops, buckets, mop sink etc. will
be provided.
• Other?
• Lions will use separate storage building to support Good Neighbor Days and their related
storage.
5. Site & Context Discussion
• What influence can the adjacency to City Hall provide?
• What influence can this structure have on Lions Park?
• The group all agreed with the 4-sided nature of the site and a desire to be cohesive with the area
and planning requirement.
6. Building Style & Civic Presence — Open Brainstorming Discussion
• Traditional Example
• Lynette commented on liking the traditional feel and respecting City Hall, while not mimicking it.
• She also commented on the building help support a "Village Green" type space on the east to
compliment the civic nature of the space between the pavilion and City Hall. She also referenced
Gathering Space, Rhythm, Order and Repetition in the conversation.
• Dan expressed liking the timeless of traditional, but also the openness of modern.
• Traditional speaks to civic space.
• Modern Example
• Dave commented on exploring the idea of glass garage doors or other operable style exterior
wall applications to facilitate flow and flexibility. The design team agreed, with the caveat that
it does compromise thermal efficiency of the exterior envelope. The group liked the open, airy
and accessible feeling of this style of architecture.
• The modern blends well with warm materials and an inviting feeling.
• Lots of natural light seems important.
HAGEN CHRISTENSEN & MCILWAIN
PAGE 2 ❑ F 3
