PUBLIC WORKS MECHANIC <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Position Title: Public Works Mechanic <br />Department: Public Works <br />Immediate Supervisor’s Title: Public Works Director <br />Pay Grade: 5 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />3 <br />the exception of taste, may be used depending on the particular task. Exposure to <br />irritants/fumes, hazardous substances such as chlorine/hot asphalt/tar/fuels, temperatures <br />extremes, vibrations, infectious diseases, dust and smoke, and noise can be occasional to <br />frequent. Must be able to work in traffic and other stressful situations. Responds to public works <br />emergencies to include work on weekends, evenings, and at night. <br /> <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br />High school diploma or GED. Valid Minnesota Class B commercial driver’s license or ability to <br />obtain within six months. Commercial Vehicle Inspector (DOT certified) or ability to obtain <br />within six months. Three years of significant experience or possession of technical degree in <br />light or heavy equipment repair and maintenance. Working knowledge of appropriate safety <br />regulations. Must have complete set of personal hand tools. The City will typically furnish <br />expensive power tools, computerized engine analyzers, and other diagnostic equipment. <br /> <br />PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS <br />A.S.E. (Automotive Service Excellence) certified master mechanic. Five years of experience in <br />maintenance and repair of general automotive, park maintenance equipment, light and heavy <br />duty truck and municipal construction equipment as well as emergency vehicles. Five years of <br />experience in diagnostics and repair of gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical <br />systems, air systems, air conditioning systems and welding applications. Experience operating <br />type of equipment that is to be maintained (park maintenance equipment, light and heavy duty <br />truck, municipal construction equipment and snowplowing equipment). Valid Minnesota Class <br />A commercial driver’s license. <br /> <br />
